Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I start every student with basic terminology for the instrument. I work on bow technique and instrument technique very early on, I believe every student wants to play as soon as possible. Music should be fun and as such, if a student is not enjoying lessons anymore I do not push and leave the option to end up to the student and parents. My philosophy of teaching is that there is a base of knowledge and skills that a student must possess before a more personal journey in music can occur. While I don't subscribe to any particular method I do believe there is a best order to learning. For students who are already in an instrumental program through school, I will start with whatever method book they are using at school, and branch off from there. Depending on the instrument, I will bring in another method book specific to that instrument book and we will also use some sort of etude book. The etudes may be classical in nature or more modern music. For older students, I will help them prepare Solo and Ensemble pieces as well. Read More
