I began teaching in 2014, and since then, have taught well over two dozen students of all levels, ages, and ability levels. The majority, of these, however, were beginners or those with intermediate experience. Teaching this level of student so frequently over the years has allowed me to develop my ability to teach these students the fundamentals of playing in an engaging way. I attended American University, where I received my bachelor's degree in music performance, and then continued to study at Northwestern University, where I received my master's degree. I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education in December 2016, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and went on to teach Orchestra as a long-term substitute after graduation. I was also invited to be a Conducting Fellow at Bard College in both Summer 2015 and Summer 2016. I have a "less talk, more play" approach to music. People learn instruments because they want to play music, and that is always the focus in my lessons. While some instructors incessantly talk about theory, history, and other music concepts, I prefer to keep the talking to a minimum and have my students play their instrument as much as possible. I also tend to move at a quick pace, but I always adapt my pacing to meet the needs of the student. Read More
