With younger students, it is important to develop this teacher, student, parent relationship in order to grow. By allowing the parent to be a part of the experience, it not only helps them to see what their student, at that age, is experiencing, it as well helps for during individual practice time. I am a professional concert violinist and have been happily teaching violin for 11 years. I have my Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Western Michigan University. During my student years I had the pleasure of serving as the concertmaster and assistant concert master of my university symphony orchestras, and was a paid member of the University of Oklahoma Graduate String Quartet, which served to showcase the music school in regular public concerts. I began teaching private lessons ten years ago while in high school under my own music instructor. She assigned me younger students to co-teach with her as a way to grow my teaching skills. In college I ventured out on my own and began offering private music lessons out of my home. I started playing the violin at the age of 8 and now I have been playing it for 30 years. I started working with children when I turned 19 and to this day I have never stopped. I studied and worked at the same time, as well as playing in an orchestra, and I developed a strong work ethic. With the students, I organized concerts and trips to competitions, as well as going to additional professional training and violin masterclasses. Read More
