I have been teaching privately part time for the past 4 years working with students in grades K-12. My main goal in lessons is for my students to not only succeed at a new skill once, but to be confident in their ability to repeat their success in practice at home and at our next lessons. I encourage positive feedback and positive "self-talk" as a means of boosting self-efficacy. As a student of the Suzuki method myself, I value the steps taken with the Suzuki books. I however prefer to mix things up here completely depending on the level and pace of every student I encounter. I believe that there are a great number of etude and scales practice books out there that are essential for every violinist whether they are a beginner or advanced so I make sure to introduce my students to those basic "text books" if you will. I have been playing viola for seven years and violin for nine years. I have worked with students that are in middle school up to high school. In high school, I played with the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra in Michigan. Then I played with the Saint Mary's College String ensemble and the Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra, and went on tour with the NDSO, for a year.
