My teaching method is based on Ivan Galamian and Dorothy Delay's teaching styles and tailoring it to the student's needs. For beginning to intermediate students, I focus my teaching on fundamental basics and techniques, tailoring the exercises and etudes based on the repertoire of each student. With more advanced students, I shift the emphasis towards music-making (color, character, pacing, phrasing), with a focus on efficient and effective combinations of sounding point, bow speeds, bow distribution and vibrato. For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. However, my lessons are not solely based on my preference, as I identify individual strengths and weaknesses and target those in the sessions. Ability level also has a big role in planning the direction of the lesson, as I do not use Suzuki for advanced students. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. There is no one size fits all method for teaching anybody. What’s important is to strike a balance of activities that works for the student, engaging their desire to learn while giving them the structure necessary for success. For example, many students want to learn their favorite pop song or the latest hit from their favorite movie. I want to help them not just play those songs, but use that as a way to learn valuable skills for future musical interests. Read More

I try to enable all of my students to gain a better more meanigful appreciation for music. I enjoy teaching and try to incorporate technique while learning music. Regular practice is a good habit to learn early on and I ask all students to bring a notebook to lessons so progress can be recorded. Regular attendance is important to continue to learn their new skill and I think learning a new discipline needs to be enjoyed. Read More
