I have 12 years of classical training on the violin, 8 years of classical training on the piano, have taught private violin and viola lessons to more than 300 students over the course of 6 summers through the Hempfield School District, participated in the NAfME All-Eastern Orchestra, performed for a year as the bluegrass and old-time fiddler in the Joe Hillman Band (Philadelphia, PA), performed as the celtic fiddler in The Ogham Stones (Lancaster, PA) for one year, and have led my own band for 2 years as a singer, songwriter and guitar player. My desire is for all of my students to know and learn proper technique. For beginner students, I will start with theory basics that are foundational to learning and can be directly applied to their instrument. Once they gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals, I will introduce more complete solo repertoire that they can begin to work on. Depending on the interests, learning desires, and level of the student, I will move forward with what interests them, though I may require some classical selections as I believe it to be a style foundational to a great musician. I try to keep my students engaged by making games for them to play while practicing. I also like to keep my students set on a goal for a given period, I believe this motivates them to push themselves. I try to be understanding of every students circumstances, so I'm understanding if a student doesn't practice for a given week. While I would like all my students to practice, I first and foremost believe consistency is important so just keeping them on the right track is often satisfactory to me. Read More
