My teaching style is taught with expectations. Although I aim to move at the student's learning pace, it is important to hold accountability on the student's behalf when we're not instruction. Consistent practice will be necessary for growth and I like to check in with students 2 days before next lessons to ensure the material has been understood and reviewed. From this point we can ensure progress. I like to get an idea from the student and the parent what their expectations are for music lessons. From there, the student and I come up with musical goals to accomplish for that year. We create a practice schedule based on the student's school and extracurricular activities and try to follow that schedule as much as possible. I also like to incorporate other styles of music such as popular Broadway pieces and Contemporary pieces into the student's repertoire so that they can have greater diversity in their piano playing or singing. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel students' desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
