Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I am a lyric soprano, and have been performing and teaching for the past 35 years. I have performed opera, oratorio, Gilbert and Sullivan and concert repertoire. My particular interests are early music and 20th century art song. I teach at several different schools, and enjoy working with ages 13 through adult. I trained originally as a classical guitartist, and take guitar students from age 10 through adult. I also teach folk guitar. For any age, music teachers have to be firm but patient. Sometimes, it's hard to stay on track when doing something rote or outside your comfort zone, and I am very understanding of that (as someone who begged my mom to let me quit piano lessons as an elementary schooler). I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students.
