I have always been selected to be the section leader in choir or the vocal coach in my casts and it has allowed me to better understand how we learn as musicians and Ive taken that with me into my own private studio. I believe the most important goal in learning to sing is to use a healthy tone production free of tension. This is true no matter what style of music the student wants to learn. I use my own exercises, written on manuscript paper that is tailored to the students needs, but always includes exercises for breathe control, relaxation and proper resonance. My student load for teaching was quite large right off the bat, but I found out quickly that it was absolutely wonderful to teach so many different kinds of singers! The students I teach at the college are mostly Theater Arts majors, but all of them enjoy learning a basis in classical technique.
