For beginning piano students I typically start with Faber's piano adventure series--I typically have students work through the lesson, performance, and theory books while providing them with additional repertoire on the side (pop, disney, classical pieces etc.) For voice students, I typically spend about a third of the lesson working on technique--proper breathing, posture, extending range, working on tone quality etc. Then the rest of the lesson is spent working on solo song repertoire. My teaching style is very patient and encouraging and I can tailor my lesson plans to suit each individual student. Although building technique and comfort are extremely important, I find that the most essential aspect of learning an instrument is to study the music that you love, and I'm definitely open to adding a bit of musical theory to every lesson if the student is interested. For children, we'll begin with aiding the discovery of musical instinct. For adults, I start by becoming familiar with what kind of music got them curious. By looking at all its parts we can begin learning the fundementals and getting to a point of confidence in a solo or ensemble setting. I am an opera singer who recently returned to the US from Germany and have a passion for teaching. I received my Doctor of Musical of Arts in voice from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2016.
