My teaching experiences have been positive, fun, and I've built good relationships with my students. My favorite part about teaching is seeing singers gain confidence in their singing ability and hearing their voices grow. I belive that any learning experience should be fun above all things. I learn a lot from my students, and I encourage them to take risks and opportunities to make them into better musicians. One of the most important things for me is putting my students out there and exposing them to new opportunities that will further enhance their singing and musical ability. Read More

I began teaching during the time I was in college. I love to inspire students with my own love of music! I also use positive reinforcement (such as stickers) to motivate my younger students to practice and perform their songs successfully. I teach a combination of classical and more contemporary music as well as music history and music theory. I also teach my students to compose and improvise their own songs as well as play by ear. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. For beginning drum set students, the program I recommend is starting with Drum Set Essentials by Peter Erskine. As skills in rudiments and basic patterns develop, I go on to materials such as Syncopation by Ted Reed (reading, coordination, technique), and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone (technique). For piano, I go over basic theory, major and minor scales, chords and arpeggios and work in Piano For Adults by James Bastien. Read More

I've been teaching music for more than 12 years now. I can honestly say that I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge of music. Not everyone can say that they truly enjoy their job so I feel blessed. I have taught hundreds of students ranging from ages 4 to 80! I have taught individuals, groups or online lessons. During the pandemic I was lucky to I keep working because of zoom lessons. I don't know what I would have done without zoom lessons. Read More
