From a young age I have been an active teacher. Advanced for my age I vividly remember tutoring my classmates in the Fourth grade. Throughout the rest of my schooling I served in some sort of volunteer tutor capacity, helping classmates and younger students. While in undergrad at DePauw University I served as an Orientation/First-Year Seminar Mentor, helping first year students adjust to campus academic and social life. I teach music because I appreciate the joy it brings to my own life and want to share that with others. I have a student centered approach to teaching music with research based methods supported by, not only my own experience, but experts in all fields of learning. The same technique, phrase, experience or activity will not work for every student. It's important to me that I find the one that does by getting to know my students, inspiring them, challenging them and helping them discover their musical selves while still preparing them for any musical goal they would like to pursue. I believe that with enough passion and dedication anyone can be a musician. Hard work and my love for music have had me teaching private lessons, classes, and ensembles since 2003. My primary focus is in clarinet and composition. But my study and expertise spans also to voice, ukulele, and guitar. I enjoy playing music from several genres including rock, pop, musical theater, Klezmer, band, country, folk and classical.
