I have been teaching private piano for two years and am excited to continue working with students in the area. I encourage regular practice for all students and use a variety of music to help students develop their technique. My desire to engage, challenge, and inspire growth in my students is not limited to the classroom. Over the time that I was at the University of Minnesota, I worked with over a dozen undergraduates and Graduate singers as an instructor. My desire to collaborate with students translates into the professional domain. It is my goal to share with students the awe and excitement, as well as the dedication and hard work, that comes along with using opera and vocal pedagogy tools to ask and answer questions. Read More

The most important parts of learning any instrument is reading music and posture/hand positions. On piano I typically use Faber's Piano Adventure series. I've found that this series teaches the fundamentals in a fun and easy way. On brass and woodwind instruments I would start a beginner with the Standard of Excellence series and supplement with the Rubank method books. With ukulele I like to start with Hal Leonard method books and then shift to Johnson's Ukulele Aerobics. Read More
Instruments: Voice

Their warmups are likewise based on those points. Intermediate students who are in later middle school and high school will focus more on singing with a clear tone that is not breathy nor strained as well as more intermediate songs, including introduction to foreign language pieces, or musical theatre tunes. I would introduce solo repertoire and teach notes and musicianship through these lessons. I think that given the opportunity ALL students can succeed. This is done through repetition and practice. I try to find what type of music the students are interested in an first focus on those and then expand their thoughts. Read More
