While I implement many techniques and since I arrive from a holistic approach to the learning, I don't have a one size fits all mode. I enjoy learning how a student learns. Often times I will have a student do a bit of songwriting, maybe a couple lines - even though they didn't think that was an interest of theirs, but I've found that using many creative tools it allows for a student to hear THEIR own voice more clearly. I make it a point to ask all students (or parents for my younger ones) to purchase a notepad where assignments, expectations, exercises, tips/tricks can be written down to help them progress during the year and into the following week of lessons. My favorite aspect about teaching is pushing students beyond the limit they place for themselves. I am a big believer in the breath. For a beginner I do a lot of exercises with breath connection to encourage healthy, connected singing. I am also a very physical teacher, encouraging students to use their whole body in the act of singing. The voice is carried by the whole body and not just the muscles that are the vocal chords. While doing my bachelor's degree, I tutored students for piano group classes and music theory. When moving to New York, I started teaching piano and voice students in the Queens while doing my master's degree. Two years later, I still have the privilege of teaching those students who have participated in recitals, with enthusiasm to teach more. While teaching, I like to be active in my profession. I participate in recitals, workshops and other vocal activities. Read More
