Since 2006 I have been teaching vocals in music schools and for the last 5 years as private vocal coach in my home studio and in a second studio location. I have been teaching in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County and Austria and am very passionate about singing and vocal coaching. I want to share my experience and expertise with my students and help them develop their voice and become the best singers they can possibly be and most imporatantly have fun with it. I always encourage my students to participate in recitals, sing and play in bands, choir, musical theaters etc to explore as many genres as possible and experience different situations like recording in a studio and performing live. I first started learning the guitar in high school. I found I had an affinity for the instrument so I continued to study classical guitar and piano in college. I first started giving lessons my junior year in college and have continued to teach ever since. I am also currently the music director for the Yorba Linda United Methodist Church in Yorba Linda California. I personally practice SOVT, where we start with light humming, use a semi-occluded means of vocalizing (such as lip trills or a straw in water) to gradually warm-up the vocal cords and bring the breath under the voice for adequate support. Then we move on to actual vocalizations. Over several lessons, we work on a chosen piece together and begin building repertoire appropriate to the singer. I am honest with a student about their body, I think the best way to sing is to know how all the pieces of your instrument work together to create healthy sound. I encourage my students to eat well and take care of themselves physically and emotionally. I also want my students to have fun by singing music that enspires them to be sincere with their emotions, singing for an audience can be scary but in a private lesson I encourage trying things out even if they seem silly. I approach teaching with specific methods in mind, but I always tailor my lessons to the student. I keep an open mind to switching things up if and idea isn't clicking, because the student and their love for music is what I care about most.
