At the beginning of lessons, I always check in with them to see how their progress was for the week and any questions or concerns that arose in their practice. I find this puts the ownership on them to reflect on their week of music making (and help them to remember that practice happens more than just in the lesson!). I have a great love of Jazz and the American Song Book.I attended Berklee School of Music and studied arranging and Jazz Composition and graduated magnum cum laude. After college I performed with bands throughout New England and at various venues and functions. I understand that not all students learn the at the same pace which is why I bring an individual approach to all of my students. I like to bring in different ideas and listen to different examples of rhythms and genres and really break down how each one works so that I may be able to find another way to make a groove not only fit into and example, but feel like it was made for that moment. I decided to become a composer and moved on to graduate in Music Composition in Lisbon, and to having my music performed in Europe and the United States, by world class orchestras (like Gulbenkian Orchestra and Orchestrutopica), and world class conductors (like Beat Furrer and Christopher Bochmann), but to this day I never stopped studying piano, playing piano, composing for piano and yes, of course, teaching piano.
