I'm a drummer of 22 years!, I have featured on numerous records as a session drummer, played hundreds of shows across the country (mostly rock/metal but occasionally jazz/funk/country) I have been classically trained from age 6-present (yes, teachers need teachers too! I don't use any one method book. Instead I opt to pull from a variety of sources depending on the students age, background, and skill level. In terms of repertoire, I focus almost exclusively on classical music. While I am a fan of other genres, I also firmly believe that building a solid, classically-based technical foundation is the only way to really become proficient on any instrument. I try to get to know each student a little in the introduction/first lesson. I ask about their music goals and where they would like to be in a few months to a year. We talk about their favorite styles of music and artists. I am so excited to see my students progress and learn a new chord, play a new song well, sing a more challenging song, increase their vocal range, and become excited about their new musical skills! My first and foremost goal is to inspire a student to want to learn and thrive in their instrument. If I can do this, my job along with theirs, becomes that much easier. I try and do this by heavily incorporating the music that they identify the most with while strengthening their technique with a classical foundation.
