I like to teach with music, meaning we start by choosing the students favorite song and building slowly in level of difficulty. As they progress we play beats and learn fills. Later we get into reading and writing drum notes. Then we explore different genres, and styles of playing. My experience goes back all the way to my college days at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. At Southwestern, I studied with Tim Pope, drummer for Ray Charles. After college, I had the opportunity to teach drums at Southwestern for 2 years as a adjunct faculty member. I then went on to teach at Fort Worth Christian School for 5 years and worked with all their students including their drum line. While at Fort Worth Christian, I was able to win multiple awards including best snare line and best front ensemble at TAPPS competition. Read More
