Getting my students to understand how consistency is much more important than anything else when it comes to practice is the first thing I strive for. I've found that making music learning a fun experience is what will help the student learn. No matter the age, training classically and applying music that the student enjoys is very important to keep the interest level high while not compromising the integrity of music as an art. Read More

When I was teaching in the F.H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art & The Performing Arts I went into the classroom each day with a message imparted to me from educator mentors such as Clem DeRosa, John LaPorta, and Leon Breeden. The message was to give your best, as each generation is owed the best if they are to succeed. In that school I was assigned certain tasks as a former bass teacher of mine Dr. Read More

When teaching fiddle I teach students starting on simple tunes that we learn by ear and memorize. With a few standard well known tunes down I use those to demonstrate more of the nuances of fiddle performance. I encourage small but daily practice. you don't have to play guitar for 4 hours a day to make good progress. Just 15 minutes every day will be sufficient especially when you first start out. It is deeply satisfying when i see a student grasp a concept that they worked so hard on. set realistic goals and don't try to overwhelm yourself by trying to play extremely difficult music in a short amount of time. basics is key if you know the basics you can do the harder things and with ease. As a musician, I believe that while learning and making music it is important not only to learn the fundamental techniques required for the instrument, but to have fun while playing. Playing and making music should be an enjoyable past time for all people of all ages, without judgement because of skill level or genre. Because of these beliefs, I try to diversify my playing in all genres on many different instruments in order to remove any biases against genres, and learn the true art behind all types of music, no matter how simple it may be.
