Robert G

Instruments: Piano Trumpet

I'm a patient and caring individual who believes in giving back to the community because the community has given me so much. I enjoy playing and teaching music more than anything. I've had the opportunity of learning from many great teachers in the state of North Carolina, and have had the privilege of being a part of groups such as the ECU Wind Ensemble, ECU Marching Pirates, ECU Trumpet Ensemble and several other quality groups. Instruments: Piano

Since beginning piano lessons myself when I was seven, I have been sharing my love of music with everyone all around me. I've been teaching lessons formally for the two years since I left college, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Working with new students is always such a humbling experience, because it challenges me as a teacher to approach old problems with a fresh perspective. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder Piccolo Mallet Percussion Music Keyboard

My teaching experience dates back to when I was still in high school. I would go to middle schools and give lessons. Now as a college music graduate, I have taught many ages including college peers. I think it is important to teach skills and methods that will help the student problem-solve and continue to learn even when they are alone. My students have done well in auditions and chair tests, and I always encourage both recitals and competitions. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin

For beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. I also use these books as a foundation for intermediate students. After students have grasped the basics, I will talk with them to determine their interest in different musical styles and songs. I will then add in supplementary material to go alongside the Piano Adventures books to give them a broader range of musical ability. Violin lessons are a combination of the Suzuki Method and Strings Builders. Read More

Cyndi S

Instruments: Piano Keyboard

Studied Piano Pedagogy with Mary Elizabeth Land and has been teaching private piano lessons for 35 years.  As a member of the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, students have the opportunity be adjudicated by some of the top musicians in Florida at Festival.  Ninety-nine percent of students in Cyndi's studio earn Superior rating at Festival. Cyndi also leads children's choirs in the area and sings in the Don Thompson Chorale, a community chorus in Jacksonville. Read More

Instruments: Piano

My main goal is to keep lessons relevant for every student, and to provide an individual plan for each student. I choose a teaching method that is geared toward the student's learning style and personality - and especially age. There's nothing worse than using a method for children with a teen or adult! Right from the start I will supplement the method book with fun and engaging pieces. We will use some apps and technology for skill building along with listening and ear training to build a well-rounded foundation. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet Ukulele

For the Clarinet, I typically use The Hendrickson Method book series with supplemental books on the side to enhance their various levels.  For flute and saxophone, I will evaluate based on the student's level. Once I have established a method book, I incorporate solos and additional techniques. I also encourage the students to bring music from their band class and/or other solos they may be working on for festivals, competitions, or auditions. Read More
