I started teaching private music lessons 10 years ago before I attended college. Throughout college and after, I progressed and improved greatly as a musician, teacher and person. I like teaching people of all ages and backgrounds and feel this mindset in paramount in me improving as an educator and overall communicator. I have experience teaching students from kindergarten to college to grown adults. Teaching a wide range of ages has allowed me to be able to communicate and teach these different generations of students. Read More

Although I have my own methods and "prescribed" teaching materials, I love to keep a dialogue with the student. I always ask what their goals with music are, as I will then tailor the lessons accordingly. If a student says to me that they want to work towards an audition, I know that I can push them harder in terms of expectation and material. Or, I've had students who want to learn how to play a specific style or song, and those lessons can be much more mellow. Read More

I make sure that beginner students understand the instrument and start with the proper technique before they can develop bad habits. I try to pick a song or finger exercises for them each lesson as well as a few exercises where they can develop their reading skills. As a student becomes more comfortable with the instrument that is when we can get into more challenging pieces of music as well as different scales and exercises that will help them with their improvising as well as their overall understanding of music. For a beginning student on guitar, I have them learning notes from a Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, or Alfred starter book. All these books are great, but I believe it depends on the individual student and how they learn. I also teach tab to beginners. I feel it is important to read tabs these days as well as notes. I also work with music theory. It is also important to know what you are doing, not just putting your fingers on the strings. Read More

I have been playing guitar since I was 7 years old and bass guitar since I was about 14. I also play drums and piano, to a lesser degree. My musical education includes college level music theory classes, many years of lessons with instructors (including an accomplished jazz guitarist), work in recording studios, plenty of self-directed instruction, and real-world playing experience. Teaching helps keep me on top of my game, and I enjoy sharing what I learn (I am always learning), as well as sharing my experiences as a performing musician. Read More

I have a strong grasp of music theory and specialize in Jazz. I believe ear development to be the most important skill in music as the ear is what we use to enjoy music after all! However I am a confident reader and will gladly help my students to develop their reading skills. I am proficient in a wide variety of styles such as Jazz, Funk, Latin, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, Blues etc. Read More

I first started teaching when I was a junior in high school. Over the summer I would help the younger students of my town by giving Double Bass lessons. Since then I've grown my studio and I've only become more enthralled with helping people learn about music. I try to educate students on the history of the instrument as well as the many roles in can play in different genres. Read More
