I'm a guitar and piano player who has been teaching students of all ages since 2011. I started playing guitar 17 years ago and it has been my constant companion since then. I got my music degree from Carleton College, and my senior project was on jazz guitar arranging. I have played in bands, both on guitar and bass, for many years and I love performing live. In the first lesson, I ask every new student what their goals area. That is how we start working together. I have been teaching drums off and on while maintaining other work for almost 20 years. While other teachers may always say "Practice makes Perfect" I say something different. "Practice makes permanent". For me, this means that yes, if you practice something every day you will get better at it - but what if you practice it wrong! That is why I have an open call/door policy. I would much rather a student call me and say "I don't think I am doing this right" and let me re-explain something instead of them just to continue practicing it wrong - once you practice something 7 times it is usually in their for good. Simpson), Catch Me If You Can (Roger Strong), Neil Simon's Rumors (Ken Gorman), One Man, Two Guvnors (Stanley Stubbers), The Magic Flute (Sarastro), and The Marriage of Figaro (Bartolo). In addition to theatrical roles, I also hove over a decade of choral experience including concert, symphonic, and madrigal choirs as well as vocal jazz. I began teaching private music lessons a decade ago as an undergraduate music student. Working at a community music school, I volunteered to teach piano lessons and lead the choir. I fell in love with teaching and after receiving my Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance, I began teaching private lessons and directing the commercial vocal ensemble at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. I am a percussionist , drummer and beginning piano instruction. I have a music degree as well a master's degree in education. I have been teaching for the past 20 years with both school age student's as well as adults in individual and group settings. Did projects such as Music to My Ears project which won an international award. Did a presentation at the U.S. Music Therapy conference on this project that was done at Kindcare in Milwaukee while working with adults with severe developmental disabilities. Read More
