My method of teaching will both implement teaching students how to sight read but also more importantly how to play music by ear. I am very big on learning by ear because it is the way I learned music most of my life. For younger students I do want them to start learning how to sight read at a basic level because it will make it easier for them in the long run. Read More

I have been teaching over 30 years privately and also at different institutions. Currently I am a piano faculty at the Hartt school of music in the University of Hartford. I have been teaching from young students to seasoned adults and chamber music coaching. By the age of 15 I was playing music professionally. I was in love with music by then and it has been my greatest passion to this day. I was honored to be asked by Dr. Porto to teach for him. I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. For piano instruction, I prefer the Faber Piano Method Books, as they are tailored to the students' individual needs. Read More

Learning the function of the THREE pedals on a good piano and how they affect the sound of the instrument is extremely important. If the student does not start out on a real piano, then he or she is not getting a true appreciation of the instrument. Read More
