I have twelve years of post-graduate experience teaching individual music lessons to kids of all ages and adults as well. I have also taught music in Montessori school so am familiar with all different learning styles. I am also comfortable teaching kids with special needs, especially ASD. They tend to be very good at music lessons because of the focused attention I give them. I keep my teaching style conversational and fun, at a pace the student can handle. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I would like to start with Hal Leonard's All-In-One Piano Lessons or Alfred's Premier Piano Course. For adults, the Hal Leonard's Adult Piano Method is a good book to start with. For intermediate and advanced students, I will figure out the appropriate method books for them at the first time we meet. I like to encourage my students, help and motivate them enjoy the lesson. I began teaching shortly after graduating from college, not expecting that teaching would be something I'd be too keen about. However, it has really grown on me and I love the gift of giving music to prospective students and watching them grow and learn as I once did. I have been teaching at various locations/businesses throughout the NJ area from as south as Swedesboro to as north as Trenton. Read More

When I think of teaching, I think of how rewarding it is to get to know each student and their families. I encourage parents to stay in the lesson (not required). There is so much to learn and see. My students each have a plan each week outlining not just WHAT to practice but HOW to practice. I often say if you practice HOW I am asking you to practice, you will learn a lot and progress. As a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a student develop a passion for music. If my students do not leave every lesson feeling inspired, encouraged, and wanting to practice and play music, then I am not doing my job. Just as I tailor each lesson to match the individual student, expect the student to grow and develop as a musician at his/her own pace. Ultimately, music is universally accessible and I want to foster a love and appreciation for listening to music as well as performing music. Read More

I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. My objective is to create a comfortable environment fertile for learning, while at the same time having my students know there are skills to refine and concepts to solidify. Read More

I started teaching private piano lessons to all ages and abilities when I was in college. I have experience with beginner level students ages 5-adult and intermediate level students ages 6-14. I have experience teaching traditional classical piano (reading sheet music), as well as pop piano (reading lead sheets). I've had the privilege of studying under several different piano professors and teachers in the past 15 years. I draw on their teaching styles, as well as my own experience in teaching. Read More

When did you decide to become a professional musician? Was it a gradual decision or was there a defining moment for you?
I decided I was going to become a professional musican shortly after graduating high school. Singing is something I feel strongest at, and something I truly love. There hasn't necessarily been a defining moment for me, yet, but I know that I have the capabilities to become a professional musician, whether that is in opera or as a singer/songwriter, which I love as much as opera.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
Yes, music does run in my family! My mom was practicing voice in college for a bit, and sang all through her childhood, but decided against it. She still has a lovely voice! My sister is a great singer, as well, but decided to pursue something different. My dad and brother can sing as well. I have some family members who are professional musicians. My second cousin is a famous jazz composer, and I know that my grandpa used to be in a band! I have a lot of music-loving people in my family!
If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
I have a lot of interests outside of music as well! I love writing, theatre, dancing, and working with kids. I think teaching primary education, choreographing dances, or acting would be what I would be doing if I wasn't a musician.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
My favorite style of music to sing is either musical theatre or opera. I love musical theatre because of the acting display and the deep emotions that go into the music. I love opera because that is where my voice seems to flourish the most, and there are a lot of beautiful arias out there!
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
My music degree is in Vocal Performance. I chose that degree because I would love to become a performer at some point in my life. I love singing in any style classically, as well as musical theatre styles and even rock and roll. I thought this degree would give me a breadth of knowledge I can use. It helps me lay the healthy foundation for any style of singing, similar to how ballet is the foundation for any style of dance. So, if I end up becoming a rock singer, I will know the healthy way to do it.
What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My dream piece to perform is probably the role of Rosina in The Barber of Seville. I sang an aria from the opera in my senior recital, called "Una voce poco fa" and I absolutely love it. To actually get to sing her role professionally would be a dream come true!
