Recent transplant to Birmingham glad to be back in the south. Twenty years of playing experience, and 10+ years of teaching experience. Looking forward to working with you! Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play. Once they have grasped how the instrument and chords work, we continue on to melodies and simple 3 chord songs. Read More

I began teaching bass lessons when I was in high school. I taught bass for 11 years as an adjunct instructor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. I also worked as a clinician at the UAB Jazz Summit. Many of my students have gone on to play professionally and a few have gone on to become music teachers themselves. The most important aspect to teaching in my opinion is to make sure that the students remain engaged and excited enough to spend the time that will make them successful. Read More

I teach students how to practice smarter and more efficiently with the time they have available in their own schedules. I believe that good, consistent practice is the key to truly developing a student's musical abilities and potential. I also like to develop each student's abilities to perform in various musical settings: playing along to musical tracks; developing their ear; performing with bands; playing solo excursions; and enhancing their ablities and potential for bringing their skills to potential, future sessions. My teaching experience began a long time ago, back when I had played guitar and other instruments for only some period of time. From showing licks and musical parts to other players to giving short lessons to friends and family members looking to learn. I have always enjoyed teaching music on all levels whether it's casual or serious! I technically started teaching lessons a few months ago to a family friend who has showed progressive advancement much to my surprise. Read More
