Through the years, I have compiled sheet music that I wrote out myself of songs that were hard to find/and easier to read. I have hundreds if not thousands of these songs. I start beginner guitar with Neil young songs because they are slow and use basic chords. Also a Pink Floyd song. It has worked for years. From there I teach a Bob Dylan song and sweet home Alabama. I have been teaching guitar for over ten years. I have taught students of all ages, and all levels ranging from beginners to advanced jazz. I also specialize in music theory, with a vast knowledge and understanding of the theoretical side of music, which I gained from studying at Berklee College of Music. I have also directed students in bands of many different genres! I have worked as a professional musician alongside part time and full time teaching for my entire adult life. Read More

As your teacher, my desire is to pass along my passion for music. Passing along my knowledge and helping you develop you skills is just one way to help you find your own passion for music. My lessons reflect this philosophy. I set realistic goals for every student every week. I have expectations for practice times and progression through my methods; however, I never get too bogged down in this. Read More

Regardless of technical ability, we will make music during lesson 1. Younger guitar students will work through the Hal Leonard Guitar for Kids Method with me in order to establish comfortability. From there we will progress into learning songs, developing musical interests, and playing our first performance. Adult students bring their own experience and interests that will be used to guide lessons individually. String Bass students will begin with the George Vance Progressive Repertoire for the Double Bass. Read More

My methods change for each student, depending on ability and interest. For the most part I start with warm up exercises to get your fingers moving properly, then have a balance of going through instruction books and jamming and/or improvising in different styles, and slowly progress you and help with techniques to make you sound as clean as possible. I will help you be able to play whatever genre, or songs you like. Read More

I like to have my students progress to a point where they feel comfortable picking a song of their choice, transcribing it as accurately as possible, and playing it. For advanced students: there is no set structure for advanced students, as their requests and sets of strengths and weaknesses are so individually specific that I have to create a specific lesson plan for each student. However, one theme that I love to introduce advanced musicians to in terms of music theory are the psycho-acoustics and emotional manipulation of specific chord progressions, modes, cadences, and modal interchange.
