There are times that I might recommend the Essential Elements series for those who are just starting off, but at some point I switch the student over to Suzuki. I usually begin by working through the Suzuki method books, and then from there try to branch out into other material depending on the student's skill. I'm always open to trying different songs and even encourage my students to find songs that they want to play.
