For younger students, I use the Faber Piano Adventures and supplement with Classical and Jazz materials. I am very familiar with this method, as the Fabers were my teachers throughout high school and I taught for them at their piano Insitute in Ann Arbor, MI, for several years. Read More

It is important that each student enjoys playing the piano and is willing to practice every day without being told by their guardian that its time to practice. With that being said, it is important that I allow each student to progress at his or her own pace. It is useless to move on to a new lesson if the student has not mastered what was taught on the most recent lesson. Read More

I approach teaching on a person to person level by getting to know and understand what is required of me. I create a program exclusively for each student that fits their comfort zone. I enjoy doing the videos they make for me to critique. So with the use of video sharing there is documentation so the student can refer back to them in the future. Teaching online is different than teaching person to person. Read More

I've also found that a combination of classical, jazz, and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. For Guitar I feel that it is best for everyone to start out learning classical and then branch out to other styles. However, I , as a teacher want to teach everything if I can , while at the same time really focusing on what the students goals are in learning to play and what music gets them excited about playing. So I will use standard guitar teaching materials such as studies from Sor and Giuliani , or Segovia scales , or certain method books by Hal Leonard , Scott Tennant etc...but each student is different and my approach is focused on tailoring everything to each student specifically. I'm an extremely passionate educator and performer with over 20 years playing experience and 17 years teaching experience. I have toured and recorded with national acts who's music was showcased and featured in major motion picture and video game soundtracks. Recently; I just recorded with the former original lead singer of "Toto": Bobby Kimball ("Africa", "Rosanna", "Hold the Line"). For the past 15 years, I have a built a reputation of instructing the best "up and coming" drummers in the area. Read More

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Your child is ready to start when he or she is excited about starting any instrument. If they are passionate about music performances and even start taking everyday household objects and turn them into instruments they are ready to do some lessons
When will I start to see results?
Results are predicated upon how much the student practices. You can teach all day but if there is no application then you will never see any results.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
Yes. I was introduced to music in elementary school when a string ensemble came to my school to recruit students for the string program. The teacher who led the group was a music teacher that I will neve forget.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose viola because I never heard of it. I was aware of a violin, a cello and bass, but not viola. I realized that violas were scarce and I made a good choice. I love the sound of the viola.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My most accomplishments were the many years of sitting principle in Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra and being chosen to play in the youth string quartet. It allowed me many performance opportunities playing in places that I never thought of. Also, performing in community orchestras and with world-renowned soloists such as Placido Domingo and Doc Severison.
What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My dream viola solo is the Stamitz viola concerto. Unfortunately, I was working on it at one point but due to switch in viola instructors I never completed it.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I enjoy playing classical, spiritual and pop. I was trained as a classical violoist, I value highly my religious beliefs and love the music that comes from it and pop just gives me that upbeat excitement that I like to play.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
Surprisingly, I do play another instrument. It is called a shofar. The shofar is an ancient Jewish instrument that has many purposes. I started playing it because it was an expression for the ministry that I oversee.
Does music run in your family? Tell us a little about your musical family members.
I inherited my musical abilities from my father who was a former trombonist and drum major in high school. However, he didn't continue it. There are other singers in my family, but I am the only family member that I believe that ever went as far as I have.
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
There is a saying that goes like this, "Practice makes perfect". I want to challenge that statement with what one of my former teachers taught me, "Perfect practice makes perfect". If you practice a piece incorrectly it will not be perfect. If you practice right then your performance will be perfect.
