I like to remain fluid with respect to my style. I want to know what the student is trying to accomplish and then find the path that motivates them the best. Their unique path will be a plan with proven techniques using a developed system based upon my experience of success. During the lesson, I want every student to understand the why behind the request. It is my intention that every student leaves their lesson excited to play more and share their music making with anyone who will listen. Read More

Over the years, I've learned that every single student learns differently in addition to going at their own pace. Anyone at any age CAN learn music! I've found that presenting multiple solutions to varying problems gives the students the best chance to succeed and it's not that someone cannot learn, they just haven't been presented with an explanation they can understand and clicks for them. I teach for each student individually and to their strengths, not what has worked for others. Read More

Each student in my studio is treated as an individual, with their own unique lesson plan tailored just for them. A typical lesson includes fundamentals (scales, articulation, embouchure), etudes, sight reading, solo repertoire, and duets....plus anything the student is working on in their current performing ensemble(s). I use a wide variety of method books like Learn To Play The Clarinet, Rubank Methods, Lazarus Method for Clarinet, Klose Celebrated Method for Clarinet, and a multitude of etude studies from Rose to Cavallini. It is really fulfilling for me to see my students use the knowledge they gain from my instructions to improve their playing level. Effective practice habits are agreed upon between myself and each student. Goals cannot be achieved without effective practice habits. Students are encouraged to participate in their community and school music performance activities, enter competitions and do music examinations. These activities build self-confidence, help students to develop a sense of accomplishment and measure their progress. Read More

Every lesson that I teach is focused on the student's individual needs and skills. For beginning students, I like to start with a method book such as Essential Elements. For students with moderate experience and advanced students I find it helpful to work on repertoire that interests the students. This could be music that the student is working on in class or music that I find for students to work on. Read More

When I start teaching new student I usually use Sergey Rozanoffs method and also my fathers Sergey Gutorov senior methods on both instruments clarinet and saxophone. Usually with a beginners for the first few lessons I start solfge and music theory and later continue introducing instrument. It is very important for woodwind players to learn from very beginning how to use air and embouchure right way. My father who was my first teacher developed a breathing exercise how to breath right way on wind instruments. Read More
