Each student in my studio is treated as an individual, with their own unique lesson plan tailored just for them. A typical lesson includes fundamentals (scales, articulation, embouchure), etudes, sight reading, solo repertoire, and duets....plus anything the student is working on in their current performing ensemble(s). I use a wide variety of method books like Learn To Play The Clarinet, Rubank Methods, Lazarus Method for Clarinet, Klose Celebrated Method for Clarinet, and a multitude of etude studies from Rose to Cavallini. I am a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts where I studied Music Education. I also have a diploma in Piano Performance and Teaching from the Royal College of Music. For the Intermediate level student (2-4 yrs of playing experience) the same lesson template as the beginning student is used with more advanced music / method books (Rose Etudes), selected solos / ensembles and appropriate scale studies. For the advanced student (4-6 years of experience), I like to introduce more advanced clarinet fundamentals / techniques, appropriate rhythmic studies, an advanced solo or ensemble selection for collegiate consideration, Rose or similar etudes and technical scale studies.
