I have loved music ever since I was a child. I grew up in a musical family, and starting taking drum lessons when I was 7. I was luckily enough to know even as a child that music was what I wanted to spend my life doing. I attended a charter middle and high school in Western Massachusetts dedicated to the performing arts, which provided me with a lot of early experience playing music with other people and honing my craft. I am extremely motivated to see my students enjoy their musical journey and have then develop their own passion for music. This usually requires setting goals that my students can reach with adequate practice, and constantly encouraging them throughout lessons. I believe that when students are given the right encouragement and acknowledgement they are more likely to succeed and have even more drive to learn. Too often I have encountered teachers that are extremely harsh in their teaching, but I do not think this really brews learning at a young age. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to high school when teaching and writing music for the drum line I was a member of. I taught privately through college and worked at music stores. I have taught at my own studio for a while and then went back to teaching at the community college. I decided to come back to teaching privately because teaching one on one is such a different teaching dynamic then teaching 45 students. Read More

I primarily use original material when I teach, but occasionally Ill work from standard method books such as Stick Control, Master Studies, and Syncopation, or assign pages from more recent books like John Rileys The Art of Bop Drumming. Ill also pull out books specifically for sight reading such as Anthony Cirones Portraits in Rhythm. For beginning and intermediate students I focus on fundamental technique, basic sight reading skills, and drum set playing (independence/coordination of the limbs, relaxation and balance, time and groove, fills and solos, introduction of musical styles, etc.) For advanced students I get into more conceptual and creative aspects of playing the drums, but I also introduce the Spivack/Wilson technique which I learned during my studies with Murray Spivack and Richard Wilson in the 1980s [check out the 4-part series featured in Modern Drummer magazine in 2011-2012]. I began as a private lesson teacher as a young college student. Over the years, I have been a percussion teacher for multiple schools from the elementary to the high school level. I have taught a class of beginner drummers to be a cohesive drumline in less than a school year. I have had many one-on-one students as well, ranging from age 3 to adults as well. My versatile experience helps guide all of my students to reach their goals as a musician and beyond! Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
