For beginning students who are children, I usually start with how to make a sound on the flute by practicing only the headjoint for the first week to help them develop the muscles in the lips and help to keep the aperture small. Once they feel confident with the headjoint, I would then teach them how to hold the flute properly and have a correct posture when playing. I am a passionate and motivated instructor who works with students of all ages. I have performed at Carnegie Hall in flute and competed in the competitive divisions of marching band ranking second place in the Arcadia Division. Setting the pace for succeeding years, that band has now ranked first place in that competition numerous times. I have always had an interest in classical music since I did ballet. For both my younger and adult students, I like to start lessons with warm ups, then move to technique training, etude, finally to solo pieces, with each lesson including a brief review of the previous lesson. For beginning students, I start with teaching them about breathing, posture, and positioning of the instrument, so students can develop solid foundation, and good playing habits.
