I taught private guitar lessons continuously, while in highschool and college. In between engagements in my performing career, I would always return to teaching. In 1992 I was certified by Dr. L Scott Martin, Phd from Juilliard, to teach vocal performance at his Academy of the Arts in Denver, and I have continued to the present, to coach young singers to express themselves with music. I have been blessed in helping many of my students to reach some impressive accomplishments in music, such major record deals, appearances on TV and Film, and getting in to some great music colleges. I like starting with the song approach. Learning a song you love is a fun process that will keep you motivated to keep learning more. I have a way of simplifying songs so anyone can start playing guitar within a few lessons. I also have a very patient teaching method that my students appreciate. I do refer to a few books by Hal Leonard or Alfred to get the students on the right track. Read More

With 14 years of teaching in the public and charter school systems, I am very experienced in determining the learning styles of my students and finding what works best for their musical education. The most important thing is to enjoy learning and performing music. My students have found that the more they learn, the better they get, and the more fun it is to play music! Read More

To me it is one of the greatest rewards to see my students understand a concept or play a difficult passage. I believe it's important for each student to progress at his or her own pace because everyone has a different mindset. I often tell my students to just work on the first and second staff of the music so they don't overload themselves with work. Setting reasonable goals fuels the students desire to progress and gets them excited to continue learning more. Read More

Lessons are catered to each students interests, goals, and musical tastes. Whatever style of music you choose to learn can be arranged in a manner that is approachable to any experience level and will in turn emphasize specific techniques and concepts needed to develop as a musician. Song choice is an integral part of the curriculum being the catalyst for the direction of each students lesson. The biggest goal of my lessons is to get my students playing first and foremost. I also teach hour-long group vocal classes seasonally. On average, I teach around 30 lessons a week, mostly 30/45 minute sessions, and several hour long sessions in addition to my group classes. The majority of my instruction takes place over FaceTime/Zoom, or in the student’s home. I just recently moved back to my home of Colorado from New York City. I am now based in Denver, where I am head engineer/producer of my own recording studio, “The Mine.” Many of my longstanding students have continued with me as their teacher via Zoom/Facetime, regardless of me moving or being on tour. My goal is to pass my deep love for music on to everyone that I teach. I will work hard for my students, and in return hopefully they will work hard for me. Learning to play a music instrument takes patience and discipline. The rewards are incredible, it can teach a student so much more than being able to play just music. Valuable life lessons come from playing a music instrument. Read More
