As a music instructor I strive to help my students learn as much as possible while harvesting a love of their instrument and the music they play on it. I graduated from the University of North Florida in 2009 with a Bachelor's in Music Performance. I have been teaching music for ten years, and learned from some of the best at my time in college. I have had the oppurtunity to play Carnagie Hall, tour the country, and perform witha multitude of different acts. Read More

For beginners I press through Hal Leonard's Guitar Method #1, laying a foundation of skills as well as approaching notation reading on the guitar. From there we begin to specialize based on the student's interest. For more advanced students, we'll focus on goals such as live performances, audition preparation, and repertoire. Read More

My methods really depend on the level of the student. For beginners, I tend to stick to basics by teaching them chords, scales, and basic music theory; by using music that they would like to learn how to play. To aid with the learning of basic music theory, I might have the students learn some older music, just as a chance to analyze it, but nothing more than that unless of course they would like to. I provide individualized instruction with a theoretical focus. I want students to understand the music that they play. I view music as a language and believe in the importance of being able to manipulate it to convey a message to the listener. I allow students to choose the songs they learn and couple them with technical exercises to improve dexterity and familiarity with the instrument. I believe in a "do no harm" philosophy, where my primary goal is to have students enjoy music on their instrument without being overly burdened with "homework" and "practice." Read More

I'm a professional musician who is committed to keeping the art of music alive through the education of new musicians. I graduated from Berklee College of Music as Summa Cum Laude in 2015, getting my Bachelor's of Music after completing a four year performance major track for guitar. While there I was fortunate enough to perform in one of the first Heavy Metal Operas entitledQueen Boudicca: A Metal Opera. I have been performing with metal bands, rock bands, swing big bands, and top 40's cover or tribute bands for the past nine years. Read More

The student is not responsible for purchasing any books or material, as I provide everything to them. For children I love teaching simple 1 finger versions of two chords, to give them an instant gratification and the knowledge that they really can play guitar. For older students, I am able to completely design a lesson plan around their interests and favorite styles of music. I like to ask the students during the first lesson to name a few songs of any difficulty that they would eventually like to be able to play, and the lesson plan we follow will inevitably reach one of those songs, providing the student with a great benchmark for their success and inspiring them even more.I also incorporate light ear training into my lessons, as your ear is your strongest asset as a musician, and I am able to break down the musical genre barriers to show students that all music truly is the same, and it is all attainable. Regardless of technical ability, we will make music during lesson 1. Younger guitar students will work through the Hal Leonard Guitar for Kids Method with me in order to establish comfortability. From there we will progress into learning songs, developing musical interests, and playing our first performance. Adult students bring their own experience and interests that will be used to guide lessons individually. String Bass students will begin with the George Vance Progressive Repertoire for the Double Bass. Read More
