What I try to do is bring the aspects of the student's playing to their attention that may not have otherwise noticed. I try to satisfy the student's curiosity as well as make recommendations for areas of focus in the student's practice routine that I find valuable. For young children I usually use the Suzuki method books for song selection and through those we can focus on the basic fundamentals of positioning and technical development. It is easy to see what needs to be addressed through those first few songs and we can go from there.
