I'm a passionate and dedicated guitar instructor who loves working with students and sharing my enthusiasm for music. Ive been playing guitar for over ten years, focusing primarily on J-pop music, which has been a huge source of inspiration for me. My formal training includes being part of IVCs guitar ensemble, where Ive had the opportunity to perform with talented musicians and refine my skills in a collaborative setting. Teaching guitar began as a way to give back to my church community, and since then, Ive enjoyed helping students of all ages develop their own love for music. Read More

Nothing is better than seeing consistent progression of my students, while seeing their passion for music develop simultaneously. Every student has a different path and journey to learning their instrument, and it is my job to help guide them down that new path, something that is greatly rewarding for both parties. Instilling confidence into students is something I absolutely always strive to do day in and day out, as providing a positive, supportive, and patient environment is something that greatly benefits students. I use various methods and books depending on the style, age, ability etc. I always keep my eye out for new books and open to suggestions. A few examples. With classical guitar students who are over 10 yo I prefer to use Christopher Parkening Guitar Method and Frederick Noad "Solo Guitar Playing" The latter suits more mature (both mentally and physically) students. With younger guitar students , 6-9 yo, I usually start by using basic guitar methods such as Hal Leonard Essential elements or "Everybody's Guitar Method" and my own easy arrangements of popular songs before shifting to Parkening. I believe in using a book and some basic tools, such as a player by which to play music (sometimes it's necessary to listen to a song in the moment to learn it myself on the quick and then teach it). So I was to cover the basic essentials of guitar playing, which includes scales, chords and techniques (ie, plucking techniques, 'tricks of the trade' like tapping, etc.) I believe in assigning homework. For beginners, I start with the basics. I will show the student the anatomy of the guitar or bass and how to care for it. After that, I will begin to teach basic techniques. I will show how to pluck the strings and fret the notes. Once the student has a grasp of those concepts, I will teach them basic chords and scales. I will also teach the student how to sight read because in my opinion it is one of the greatest skills a musician needs. Read More

I believe the lessons should be informative, and should help the student learn about a variety of different musical styles. If a student is interested in a particular artist or genre and wants to learn their songs, then I will incorporate that music into the lesson. Read More

My methods are geared toward the individual. Oftentimes I might start with a methods book for a beginner, but supplement it with musical choices by the individual. In selecting these choices, I find ways to simplify the music so that the student is able to be able to play it. My method is also based on questions that the student might ask. So while we will have an approach that is organized and structured, I find that addressing seemingly unrelated musical questions, can actually be incorporated into the tasks at hand. Read More
