Instruments: Piano Trumpet Flute Clarinet Double Bass

Over the past 10 years I have developed different methods of teaching musical concepts so that if the lessons don't make sense the first way I explain them I can teach it from a different angle. Not everyone can learn the same way so you have to be flexible with different teaching styles. I like to make sure the student learns not only what they need to know, but also what they want to know. As far as books go, I prefer the Hal Leonard method, especially for beginner musicians. I combine visual, audio and kinesthetic learning methods to tailor to anyone's needs. After the basics are taught or they're already learned, I assess the student's level and teach the student what they wish to learn to the best of my ability. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Violin Viola

I dont have only one. It depends on the child or the adult. Someone might need Suzuki, some Essentials, some russian method(Radionov) and also music that they like! I try to be flexible and to understand whats best for them! Also I try to keep a balance between fun and dedication, for them to also be aware that music requires discipline even when you do it just as a hobby! Read More

My teaching style is all about building good foundation for students to build on and find the best way from them to be successful and fulfilled. I will give them achievable obstacles from them to over come and over time make them better players and people. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
If you play something wrong, don’t go back and play it only once wrong. You need to play it a few times correctly. If you play it once wrong and once right, when you go back and do it again, you will most likely play it wrong again. Sometimes it is helpful to practice the tricky sections first a few times before doing a run through of the whole piece. Young students should commit to practicing 15-20 minutes at least 5 days per week. Older students should commit to practicing 30+ minutes at least 5 days per week.

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Violins come in many sizes and so this is a good instrument for young children to play! If your child can follow simple instructions, has good behavior, and can commit to regular practice, your child is ready for lessons. Violin and piano can be started at a very young age. The children do not need to know how to read or have any prior music experience. Students who do not yet know how to read will need a parent to help with practice sessions, but older students should be able to practice without assistance. I would suggest waiting until about age 8 to start the viola.

When will I start to see results?
This really depends on what you consider “results!” Students will learn how to play some music on their instrument in the very first lesson. Progress depends on many factors. Older students tend to progress faster than younger students. Natural ability plays a role in instrument proficiency as well. Even more than natural ability, however, is how much time and focus the students spend on their instrument during the week. I have had students with not much ability be really successful through hard work and diligence!

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My mom actually inspired me the most to go into music. She was (and still is) a piano teacher. Music was the norm in my childhood home. I began to have an interest in violin at age 2. My mom started teaching me piano at age 4 and then allowed me to take violin lessons at age 7. She taught me the importance of regular practice, making sure that it was done even when I would rather be doing something else. As I got into my teenage years, she provided me the opportunity to do some student teaching. I helped with group piano classes and taught some private violin lessons for a reduced rate.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
