I began private teaching while studying in college and am looking to expand and build a studio in The Greater Seattle Area. I have taught my own students and acted as a substitute teaching instructor ; nurturing and respecting the teaching styles already presented to the students. During my schooling in Boston, I studied Alexander Technique and always try to incorporate body awareness when working with students! I have helped former students achieve their goals for auditions and recitals, and enjoy helping students find a piece that really sparks their interest. Read More

I love to see my students grow and develop as their passion for music increases. I facilitate this by giving examples of goals that they can reach and examples of different styles and genres that they can immerse themselves in. By doing this students see that playing and possibly mastering an instrument is not just about discipline and practice but about a high level of expression and communication. The reward my students feel from being able to accomplish this instills in them great joy and pride and motivates them to work at other things in life the same way. Read More

I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students. Therefore, I like to record my students quarterly for a few minutes within a lesson to show the mass amounts of improvement they will accomplish. Read More

I would describe my lesson style as fun, friendly, focused and goal-oriented. If you're a beginner, my goal is to get you up and running on the guitar as soon as possible. if you've played a while, but have reached an impasse as to how to get to the next level, then I zero in on the reasons wh, fill in the gaps, and provide the materials and instruction you'll need to improve. I have a very laidback, low-pressure approach - if you didn't practice, it's not the end of the world! I think back to my own days of taking lessons and remember how much more I improved in this type of environment, and how much more I loved the process. The difference between these approaches can be night and day, both in results and morale out of the student (which, again, I know from experience as a teacher, but also from my experience as a student). I have the same approach to teaching beginner and intermediate piano. Again, we learn our notes in five finger position and then we learn to read time signatures, notes in the treble clef, chords, and rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. When teaching piano for beginners I like to pick the leaning material that we'll use based on the individual because we all learn differently and I like to keep it fun so the student stays interested. I have been a performing and teaching professional for over 25 years and released over 20 albums with many different artists. Since I was in my early twenties, I have performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Central America. I bring my experience to the lesson room through a thorough and varied approach to harmony, technique, sight-reading, improvisation and performance techniques. Acoustic and electric bass are my primary instruments, but I teach to advanced level on guitar and ukulele, beginning piano, and in multiple genres of music. Read More
