Instruments: Piano
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with method books, and focus on teaching my students how to read notes and rhythms. With young students, I also prepare fun games and activities that will help them become acquainted with the keys on the piano. As the student progresses, I find and introduce new repertoire that is appropriate for their skill level. For teenagers and adults, I find out what the student is interested in learning and how I can best help them reach their goals! Read More
Instruments: Double Bass
I have been involved in music from a very young age when I started playing piano. I discovered my passion for the double bass in high school and have been playing ever since. I have studies with some of the most renowned bass performers and teachers in Europe and the United Stats and have adopted various methods and approaches to my playing and teaching. I have passion for discovering unknown pieces for the bass as well as popularizing the music of my country, Bulgaria. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
My methods vary greatly depending on the student's goals and experience. Through the first few years of study, an emphasis on the fundamentals of music and instrumental skills is required. This typically takes the form of a beginning method book. For students beyond this phase of study, advanced technique work takes the form of scale, chord, and interval studies. I couple these with the development of repertoire that fits the needs and goals of that student. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
For young beginning piano students, I typically start with John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano: The First Grade Book and move up throughout the series from there. For young beginning voice students, I start with lessons on proper breath support, sight-singing, intonation exercises, and warm-ups to shape their voice. For both my piano and voice students, I establish a strong, classical foundation that is built on fundamentals to get their instrument working properly and then branch out to other genres from there. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Trumpet
I have taught one-on-one lessons for guitar, voice, piano, and trumpet for multiple years. My lessons are student-driven so that the learner can begin to critically think about and perform music on their own without the constant "need" for a teacher. I have taught a wide-range of learners of different ages and abilities. With the guidance from me, learners feel confident in their ability to successfully perform. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I teach my students to read music as well as to play by ear. I host 2 recitals each year. We learn one song start to finish and I hire a professional band to learn and perform the songs with my students at a local establishment or at my studio. I encourage all of my students to perform with our recital band. As far as books, I prefer to use the "new Breed", by Gary Chester, the ''Art of Bop Drumming'', by John Riley , and the ''encyclopedia of reading rhythms'', by Garry Hess, but there are many other books I recommend for specific needs.
