Later, I was the band director and music teacher for the grades 4-12 grades in the Syracuse City Schools. I conducted a concert band, jazz band and had over 70 students in my band programs. Depending on the desired style, there may not be much use of notated music, guitar tabliture, etc. But as already stated, this does not excuse a good foundation in reading music and understanding music theory.
