I have a handful of College music courses under my belt, as well as remembering and doing well in a handful of music courses from high school. I have an associates in arts backgrounds, and traversed the Guilford College music minor program in good standing. I have studied under a jazz guitarist, and was part of a high-ranking high school drumline during my high school days. I have studied privately in areas of Rock, Folk, and Blues especially. Read More

I have been teaching privately for over ten years. I have taught all levels and ages over the years, including a few adults. During my five years at Play On Philly, an after school music program, I taught small group flute lessons and coached/arranged music for small chamber groups. I have also worked for Symphony in C Youth Orchestra, coaching weekly sectionals and playing in the orchestra with students. Read More

I don't believe in just one way, each student is different! For beginners, often the struggle is getting a good sound out of the flute and learning fingering and how to read music all at the same time. I like to take it step-by-step with reasonable goals. As students progress, we start to incorporate more and more into the repertoire while focusing on fundamentals and sound. But, I like to keep it fun along the way by playing along with my students, bringing in duet music and listening to the greats like Galway. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I am a fun-spiritedteacher thatmaintains structure to every lesson and I have a passion for teaching students of all ages how to play the piano. I started playing the piano about 25 years ago and I began teaching about12 years ago. I performed in many recitals and guild auditions as a student, and in college I began to perform at Open Mics, at weddings and then dinner music at restaurants. I was a National Guild of Piano Teachers Member from 2006 to 2008 and prepared several students to perform in guild auditions. Read More

Everybody learns differently, and everybody has different skill-sets and levels. I also believe most people have different styles. For beginners just picking up a guitar (or bass), I'm more apt to have them refer to some curriculum outside of the lesson session, as opposed to more advanced students, where the discernment on what to use as reference varies with each individual. I'm definitely a fan of hands on learning (obviously with a musical instrument), but with this type of learning the practical application can be harder than a school course for example. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
There is no set method that works for each student. For young children that are just beginning, I like to start them with the Bastien Piano Basics or Piano Adventures series, but I will supplement these books with other material depending on the student's needs. I like to give beginner students little pieces that will help them understand the fundamentals of music in context so that they are still making music while they learn the basics - this keeps them from getting bored!
