I've been teaching private music lessons since I first started college in 2004. I've taught at community centers, afterschool programs, and music stores since graduating in 2008, and started my own home studio about 2 years ago. I like to teach the rudiments, as the fundamentals of music and of one's instrument provide the solid base upon which all else is built, though I also stress creativity for all my students. I encourage students to draw from many genres of music, and not limit themselves to one style or method of playing. Read More

For young beginners, I generally will start with a beginning method book (such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements) but the book will depend on the instrument as well. For older students, I want to know what kind of music they enjoy playing or listen to, and guide them along to reach their goals--whether that be to play in a band, write and record an album, or just become a better player! Instruments: Piano Cello
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I enjoy sharing the magic of music with others as both a performer and instructor. I studied piano, cello and engineering at USC and Duke University. I've had the pleasure of serving as a section cellist with various orchestras throughout my career in Georgia and South Carolina. I've studied piano with Dr. Frothingham and cello with Dr. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
My philosophy in teaching the trumpet is based on the individual needs of the student at their particular stage of development. I strongly believe in reinforcing the fundamentals of brass playing: Proper breathing, air support, correct embouchure and tongue placement are all crucial elements for the trumpeter to achieve production of a clear and open sound. Once such sound production has been attained in the lower and mid ranges of the instrument, the capability of the player to produce higher tones increases with proper practice and the help of studies of the overtone series as well as the playing of scales. Rhythmic and metered playing must also be exercised for the sake of re-enforcing the ability to play in tempo and for rendering unfamiliar rhythm patterns manageable. Read More
Instruments: Piano
As I said above, I am a very experienced teacher. I have a nice nature and believe that students should love the music and I do my best to make them love the music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet Keyboard
My teaching experience started when I was a college student and was able to intern at several jazz camps in the Midwest, substitute teaching for the main instructors. Through the University of Miami, I was selected to travel to the Jalisco Jazz festival in Guadalajara, Mexico and perform and teach at their camp. I was in charge of leading ensembles as well as teaching masterclasses to the brass players at the camp. Read More
Instruments: Flute
My teaching experience dates back to high school when I taught lessons during my senior year. I had a very solid foundation in the basics of breathing which has served me well. I believe in emphasizing the basics and a regular practice schedule to get the most out of the flute. I like to encourage them to pick out music that they like to go along with the classical music repertoire. Read More
