I studied music at the New England Conservatory and Harvard University, and I've had the privilege of traveling throughout North and Central America performing jazz, classical, rock, and many other types of music. While my students will follow a basic program, I vary my teaching techniques based on the student's individual needs. For younger students, I typically start with John W. Schaum Piano Course: Pre-A: The Green Book and A Dozen a Day Piano Exercises. For older students, I like to use our first complimentary 30-minute lesson to discuss their personal goals and create a basic lesson plan. With EVERY student, I implement the use of flashcards, games, videos, interactive experiences, and enjoyable homework assignments that will teach the student how to play the piano, read sheet music, understand music theory, and appreciate music as a whole. The main reason that I keep track of my student's growth, musical ability, learning speed, and musical history, is because every student is uniquely different when they are in the lessons. Some students are better with being pushed at a quicker pace, and others need more time to learn things.
