For beginning students, I normally start with Alfred's Drum Method. This book works on the fundamentals of reading snare drum music and basic technique. Once the students grasps the basics on reading and playing with a metronome then we tend to move to Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials (while still working on the Alfred's Method). After the student has began to play with the audio tracks and have succesfully gone through a few lessons from Groove Essentials then we begin to work on some solo repertoire and personal favorites as well. When I teach beginning students who are children, I start with the Bastien Piano Basics or Alfred Basic Piano.  This way, I make sure that my students learn and understand the fundamentals and basics of piano and music.  After they learn from several levels of these method books, I introduce easy pieces by classical composers from Easy Piano Classics by Bastien or Easy Piano Classics edited by Agay, followed by Sonatinas by Clementi, Kuhnau, Haydn, and Mozart. I throughly enjoy making music. I started taking piano lessons when I was 5 years old and continued taking all the way through graduate school at TCU, where I graduated in 2016. Playing solo and collaborating with fellow musicians are still some of my favorite pass times. I enjoy playing all kinds of genres: Classical, pop, worship, Bossa Nova. I like to use the Faber Piano Adventures Series or the Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course for piano instruction. In addition to the method book, I like to incorporate physical/breathing exercises, supplemental warm-ups, sight-reading, music theory worksheets, and student selected repertoire in lessons. I also encourage students to create their own compositions.
