Since the age of 5 I've been playing the piano. I had my first recital at 5, at which I played Ode to Joy by Beethoven and I'm 45-years-old now and can still remember that. I have been in love with the piano my entire life and have been teaching piano to kids and adults since I went to college at 18. I began with just 4 students but after short time (and a lot of word-of-mouth recommendations) my studio grew to over 25 students. Once students are past the fundamentals and rudiments of their instrument(s), I introduce large selections of solo repertoire to sight-read in lessons; this process allows students to try out a large number of pieces, and then selecting a few to study forward. For every instrument I teach, I keep a large variety of warmups, games, activities, composition strategies, and improvisational pieces in circulation to keep my lessons fun, engaging, and rewarding for every student. I like to start each student off with the fundamentals. I think the fundamentals are very important for every musician. Once you master the basics, then we can move on the solo repertoire, or start to develop each musicians individual style. I want the lessons to be both fun and engaging. I started teaching college age students as an Undergraduate as part of my vocal pedagogy class, and have also taught students for my Graduate vocal pedagogy class. I continued teaching some after the classes concluded. Early in 2013, I officially opened my own voice studio and have been taking new students ever since. I enjoy teaching voice students of middle school age through adulthood. I let my students choose what style of music they would like to sing so that they will enjoy working on it. Read More
