I cannot stress enough the respect I have for each student's learning style and play, and I put a lot of effort into understanding each students individuality. We're not making fast food, here! That said, I have some basic books I've been working out of for years. For younger students I work with a couple things including the Alfred Drum Method and the Bastien books, as well as very simple ear training games and things like 5 finger scales. Read More

I have taught some students while attending Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. I've also taught a master class to university students in Colombia, South America while on tour with the Morgan State Jazz Combo. I enjoy teaching to all ages! Read More

People don't realize how important daily consistency can be, even for a short span of time. As students grow and become more comfortable on the horn, I slowly start introducing more and more advanced concepts, while still giving them room to experiment on their own and discover their own interests. There are a few exercises that I will continue to enforce, but for the most part, I try to avoid pushing any student in a certain direction when it comes to repertoire because the most important thing is that they stay engaged and develop a passion for the music. My teaching style is fast-paced, fun, and engaging. I integrate many musical styles and genres, from pop to classical to give my students a wide array of musical experiences. I believe in positive reinforcement and prioritize a student's social-emotional learning. Through music, my students will learn about the world, their community, and themselves. I focus on growth and not benchmarks to assess the success of my students. I also gig regularly on both instruments, allowing my students to have ample opportunities to watch me play. Read More

Each student is different. At first I try to see what's their passion, how much farther they want to learn, what style would they prefer, and more things about their preferences. For the beginners it's very important to learn step by step. But at the same time I always find out a unique way to entertain by performing a peace for them, and/or play along with them or play an accompaniment for them. Read More

My teaching background stems from being taught as a 4 year old and seeing the passion of those who invested in me and my future from a young age. I was encouraged to have a strong practice routine on a consistent schedule so I try and instill the same practice in both my vocal and keyboard students. I believe music is supposed to be a fun experience and always look for ways to implement fun exercises so that the passion for learning is increased. Read More
