I am a passionate instructor who loves to share in his excitement and enthusiasm for music and bringing joy to peoples' lives. In 2012, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Tuba/Low Brass performance from Saint Joseph's College in IN. Following the music, I have been blessed to share in this universal language on stages small and large, near and far; from the streets of Austin, TX, to the largest churches in Rome, Italy. I usually prefer a phone call or use the first lesson to guage the interest level, previous experience, and goals of the student and/or parents. I have used a variety of teaching books and methods, and will generally try to contour my methods to the needs of students while also keeping costs low. I do not often rquire students to purchase expensive music books, and prefer using repetoire and music directly relevant to students long and short-term goals. Read More

Those lightbulb moments for students drive what I do. I love working hard with students to accomplish musical goals, pushing them beyond what they thought they were capable of. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for the student at each lesson, taking small steps to achieve larger goals. I tailor each lesson to the student, using fun, creative methods to keep each student making creative, engaged and fun music! Read More

To me, the key element for a successful learning experience is to engage the student in the lesson and during their individual practice. I have battled with ADHD my whole life and I distinctly remember daydreaming during many of my classes in college, retaining little-to-no information. It is very difficult to engage with a topic as complex as music, but it is crucial to absorb every second. My main priority during a lesson is engaging to student in the session material, typically fun and exciting ways. Read More

For beginners, I advise them to purchase Essential Elements or another book of equivalent level, and we would be able to work through these basic exercises and melodies so that the student can learn fundamentals. I also ask beginners what song they would like to play, and I would transcribe the notes for them so that we can work towards something they want to achieve in the near future. For players who are intermediate level and above, I think it is important to point out what people do well, and then as a teacher provide feedback on how they can get better. Read More

I taught private lessons several years ago during my undergraduate study at the University of North Texas. While I enjoyed it at the time, I remember thinking that I needed to concentrate on my own study to improve any teaching skills I had up to that point. I also had classroom experience with middle school band students during my undergraduate study - leading rehearsals and demonstrating proper tone production and articulation. Read More

From the very beginning of my work, I believe in positive reinforcement because I find that we all need our hopes and beliefs in our ability to accomplish something to be nurtured before we take on any challenge, objective or goal. This is very important because I also believe that presenting students with challenges and goals allows them to experience adventure, fun, and rewards- particularly in the context of music. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
