Ever since I can remember, I've been singing and learning everything I can about music. I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. While at Haverford, I toured colleges on the East Coast with my male-voiced a cappella group, and I also toured both Mexico and Germany with the Chamber singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. I base my teaching style on the individual student and how they learn.  Some students learn more by rote, others learn more by oral and others learn more by understanding theory.  I always incorporate proper technique so that the student developes as quickly as possible. For those students who like working from a more traditional sense I work primarily with the John Thompsen and Bastien Piano Methods. Other students, especially students that start at an older age I work immediately by having them play familiar songs and melodies and as their technique improves providing them with more difficult music to play. When teaching both voice and piano I find music literacy vital. In younger students first developing aural skills, I like to sing and repeat tonal and rhythmic patterns. I also give handout assignments to learn notes on the staff. With older and more experienced students, I devote time in each lesson to sight reading and sight singing. I use the Adventure series books for all of my piano students, as well as outside literature. Read More

When I was a college student teaching is not something I ever thought I would enjoy, however, I could not have been more wrong. Through out my musical career teaching is something that I have genuinely fallen in love with. Every person has their own unique voice and it is truly a joy to help someone discover that voice and show them how amazing music making can be.
