Over my years of teaching, I have developed my own method for beginning students that caters to the individual student's needs and learning styles. Once the student has grasped the basic fundamentals, I start to introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their level, as well as focusing on learning proper technique. I believe that a very important part of my role as teacher is to guide the student on the route that they want to go. Read More

For beginning students, I usually start with the Faber Piano Adventures series. We also work on long-term pieces for festivals and recitals throughout the year if they are interested in playing for those. I strongly encourage them to participate in these, helping them to feel confident and secure in these performances. I will also pull in pieces from other methods or books when needed to fill in any gaps or work with any different learning styles. Read More

My teaching experience began at a young age. I started volunteering lessons for the youth in my church. I played keyboard on the worship team for several years and some youth students showed interest so I would teach them every now and then. In 2017, I started teaching private lessons at a studio in Fort Worth. I really started to enjoy it, and as I kept on teaching for years to come (going on 6 years now), I've just fallen in love with it! Read More

I use a very concise methodology in my instruction. I evaluate the students level, from there I make a step by step guide (of selected piece and etudes) to show the student their progress into the next level. I also encorperate ideas in theory, history, and ear training. Also if the student has yet to learn how to read musical notation. that will be taught along side with regular instrumental lessons. After thirty years I still love to play and talk about music! I've added more instruments to my skillset over the years just so I can write and create more music out of my home studio. I just released my first album, Influenced, in 2017 and for the first time will be performing music from the album at Denton Arts & Jazz! My first professional music job out of high school was in the Army band where I spent four years playing my trumpet and seeing the world. Read More

My earliest teaching experience was in my senior year of high school. While in college, I was required to do some student teaching, and this gave me a tremendous amount of insight into how best to approach being a music instructor. Since graduating, most of my musical experience has come from playing and directing choirs at churches, schools, and theatres, but I have continued teaching and enjoy learning different methods to share with my students. Instruments: Flute
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my solo debut performance with the New Albany Symphony Orchestra this past year. I entered their annual concerto competition after I had spent countless hours practicing and preparing the Renaissance Concerto by Lukas Foss, only to make finals but not advance further in my undergraduate concerto competition. I had absolute faith in all of the hard work I put into this piece, and I knew that if I just had one more chance to play it that I could win. I ended up winning first place in the New Albany Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and I was invited to perform the fourth movement of this concerto with the orchestra a few months later. It was the greatest musical experience of my life, and the first time that I gave a performance in front of a lot of people and felt truly proud of myself and all of the work I had put into it afterward.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I chose the flute because my cousin began playing it when she was in fourth grade, and every time I would go over to her house I would see it and ask if I could play it. Eventually she gave up on the flute, but I fell in love with it and knew that I had to play this instrument. When it came time for me to decide on an instrument during our fifth grade instrument fittings, I was told that I should play the french horn because I could make a good sound out of it and they needed more french horn players in the band. I refused incessantly because I knew that I was meant to play the flute and I loved it, and my cousin offered to give me her flute if I were to decide to play it. I entered every single band opportunity available to me in middle school and high school, and I could not imagine my life without the flute.
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
My private flute teacher in high school inspired me to go into music! She saw potential in me right away and asked me very early on if I had put any thought into pursuing music as a major in college. I was a sophomore in high school, and I told her that I really couldn't see myself being happy if I were to pursue any other career path. She helped me find various competitions that I could enter and summer programs to audition for, and she inspired me to realize that I really had what it takes to be a musician. Her faith in my ability gave me the confidence to give it my all and be accepted into 4 out of 5 of the music schools that I auditioned for during my senior year of high school.
