I talk with my students (and their parents, if applicable) about their previous musical experience and their expectations and goals in taking lessons.Everyone learns differently and at a different pace, and everyone has unique strengths. I use my students' natural strengths to help them understand the aspects of music that come less naturally to them. Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music.
