Everyone learns an instrument for different reasons and I think it's very important to acknowlege that and recognize acheivements students make regardless of how small they may seem. I strive in every lesson to find what excites a student about music and what gets them interested to learn. I want students to be constantly engaged, challenged, and invigorated by music so that they too can develop a passion for music like I have. Read More

My first priority as a teacher is to find out what the student is interested in. Why do they want to play? What music do they like? What are they hoping to accomplish? That is always my starting point. From there, I help the students reach their individual goals, while also teaching a basic curriculum I have designed myself in order to give the students the skills and knowledge all players require. I draw attention to the importance of listening and help the student identify what to listen for. There is nothing more frustrating than practicing a particular fill 1000 times, only to later realize you've been practicing it incorrectly. This is very common among drummers young and old, but is easily dealt with by simply cultivating a sense of listening and apt imitation. However, I do not endorse perfectionism as a means of effective learning either, and I also will remind the student of the fact that sometimes when you're jamming, even if what what you're playing is not perfect, it's "good enough for rock and roll." This is part of the attitude of rock and roll that I feel is conducive to better, faster learning: a willingness to make mistakes, acknowledge them, learn from them, and move on. Read More

As a teacher I try to inspire my students. Whether its playing a song for them to motivate them, breaking things down to the most simple element, I approach teaching in a pragmatic way. Everyone is a little different when it comes to learning, so my job is to somewhat cater the lesson to the student in order that they get the most out of it. I encourage students to practice and I follow up on the assignments given. Read More

Taking the time to understand my students, their ability to retain information, and execute, as well as their interests, goals and desires musically, is vital to my success as an instructor. While I use many of the collection of standard method books, I find creating unique exercises designed to target weaker areas in a particular persons playing to be more efficient, in cases, accelerating their grasp of fundamentals. Throughout ones progression, repertoire is introduced to reinforce techniques in a musical fashion. Read More

I like to design my lessons to fit the student's needs. I'm laid-back, easy going, and patient. What's most important to me is that the student is having fun and is comfortable. Giving back what I have learned is very rewarding for me. We will set realistic short-term and long-term goals building a solid foundation. Read More

When it comes to teaching music, the student is the first priority. If the student is interested in playing rock music, we will focus on that. If they want to focus on the music they play in school band, we will focus on orchestral and symphonic percussion. Every student is different, and it is a teachers job to tailor the lessons towards a students natural learning style. I make sure to acknowledge my student's accomplishments, give extra attention to areas they need to work on, and generally make sure that they are always learning and having fun. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
