On the first lesson, I like to help students create realistic, long-term goals for themselves. Then the student and I develop a plan to help them achieve them. Learning tools include method books, recordings of the lesson, and playing along with me. I also make solo pieces available, and encourage the student to participate in local recitals. I use for both the string bass and electric bass students the F.Simandl Method for string bass. There are also Etude books to follow and they include the 30 Etudes. I like to develop a personalized lesson plan for each student beginning with an evaluation during the first lesson. I like to find out why my students are interested in playing music. This helps me to create a lesson plan for each individual one. I like to start out teaching using Alfred's beginner books, and progress from there. Each student learns at a different pace, so I base my lessons off of their progress.
